Bomb Threat at Park Rapids High School

On October 10, 2016 at 7:39 am the Park Rapids Area High School reported to law enforcement they received a voice message of a bomb threat at the Area High School.

Local law enforcement responded to the scene as the Park Rapids School District re-route arriving buses to Century School. The Area High School was evacuated, locked down, and the students there were brought to Century School by staff. Park Rapids School District forwarded out a student message to the parents informing them of the situation. All students were safe & secured in Century School. Law enforcement was also present at the Century School for security purposes, as the Park Rapids School District acted on their emergency plans.

During the course of the investigation the entire school campus was searched & no suspicious items were located during the search. The phone number used to make the threats was located & two juveniles were interviewed & arrested after admitting they made the call to the Area High School. The report threat was a hoax & direct threat was ever acted upon. At 9:53 am, the Park Rapids School District resumed normal school classes for the day. Some students were picked up by parents from the school grounds.

Responding to the call was the Park Rapids Police Dept., Hubbard Co. Sheriff’s Office, MN State Patrol, Paul Bunyan Task Force, Park Rapids School District staff, Nevis School District staff, & Arvig Communications all assisted at the Area High School.
