By Cody Booker

On August 25th around 1:30pm a two boat collision was reported on Fish Hook Lake, a mile North of Park Rapids. Officers arrived to find those involved on the shore with one man missing. The fifth man, 78 year old John Patrick Sargent, was pronounced missing shortly after the incident. The search for the man involved the cooperation of the Becker County Dive Team, Lakes Area Dive Team, the Minnesota DNR, and the Hubbard County Sheriffs office. After the search was stopped when nightfall approached the group resumed their search the following day. Sargent was found close to 3pm in eight feet of water.

Sargent was operating his boat the day before when it collided with 32 year old Jessiah Hoeg of Maple Grove. The passengers of Jessiah's boat were fine with minor injuries, while Sargent and his passengers were all ejected. While there was no alcohol involved, there were also no life jackets on any member of Sargents party.

Witnesses on land were able to get to the boat and pull the capsized passengers out of the water with only Sargent being the only missing person at the time. Jessiah and her passenger were treated for only very minimal injuries while the two suriving members of Sargents boat were treated for more substantial injuries.
