State Patrol Investigating Fatal Crash

The State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at Hwy 71 and Sprucewood Lane NE, Hines Twp in Beltrami County.  The crash involved a 2001 Buick Regal and a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. The crash happened in the early hours of June 21, 2019.
 
The 42 year old male driver of the 2019 Wrangler was taken to Sanford Medical Center with Non-life Threatening injuries.  The 41 year old Ponemah male driving the Regal suffered fatal injuries.
 
More information on the crash will come out after the State Patrol is able to reconstruct what happened.  Outside agencies that responded to the crash are Beltrami County Sheriff's Office and Blackduck Fire and Ambulance.

Foothills State Forest ATV Crash Results in Serious Injury

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reports that on June 16th 2019 at 2:06 PM, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an ATV crash with injuries in the Foothills State Forest near the Spider Lake Recreation Area in Ansel Township, rural Backus MN. Deputies and EMS personnel responded and learned that the victim, Mary Hedstrom, age 58, of Alexandria MN was operating a 2004 Sportsman 600 ATV when she attempted to negotiate a sharp turn and lost control, leaving the trail and rolling down an embankment. The victim was taken from the scene by ambulance and transported to a Brainerd MN hospital with serious injuries. The investigation continues. Assisting at the scene were the Sebeka Fire Department, Pine River Fire Department, Pine River Police Department, North Memorial Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care.

Great Northern Fire

The Park Rapids Fire Department responded to a fire at the Great Northern Cafe Tuesday morning after staff arrived to work in the early morning and found the building filled with smoke. The fire department received the call at about 5am. Upon arrival the fire department found a lot of smoke in the building with very little flame. According to Park Rapids Fire Chief Terry Long, the fire appeared to almost choke it's self out. Most of the damage is to one wall and there is smoke and water damage. The Fire Marshall was on the scene and preliminary findings are that it was an electrical fire. The fire is still under investigation,. Lance Pritchett the owner of the business hopes to get in and get things cleaned up as soon as possible so they can re-open. We'll let you know as soon as a re-opening date has bee determined.
