Ronald William Beattie Jr., the owner of Risky Business in downtown Brainerd, appeared Tuesday in Crow Wing County District Court for two counts of selling synthetic cannabinoids. On December 8, 2011, Beattie was arrested after officers executed a controlled buy of the cannabinoids. The police confiscated around 430 packages of the synethic cannabinoids, in the names of ‘Down 2 Earth, ‘Mystic’ and ‘Kush Max’. This wasn’t Beattie’s first offense for possession and selling of the drug, however. As of July 1, a law was put into effect to prohibit possession and selling of synthetic cannabinoids in the state of Minnesota. Law enforcement then advised Risky Business to stop selling the cannabinoids. However, on July 27, Beattie was arrested for selling the product, after police were given an anonymous tip that the business was still selling the cannaabinoids. Law enforcement confiscated $12,000 worth of the product during the first offense and $15,000 the second offense. Beattie’s next court hearing is set for May 2.
