By KDKK

For the first time in the history of the program we're State Bound!

The Park Rapids Girls Volleyball team earned the title of Section Champs after knocking off Roseau.  The Panthers lost to Roseau last year to have their dreams of state crushed, but got their revenge this year!  Sets were 25-16, 25-13, 25-13.

In the first round of the Class AA State Tournament the Panthers took on #3 seed Marshall who has appeared in State Tournaments 28 times and has 16 State Titles under their belt.  The Panthers lost 3-1 but put up a great battle by winning the 3rd set.  Marshall got a little uneasy realizing that the Panthers meant business.

The Panthers then moved into the consolation bracket Friday and took on Belle Plaine.  The Panthers again lost 3-1, but rallied back in the 2nd set to let Belle Plaine know that they meant business. Sets:  17-25, 25-23, 14-25 and 23-25.

A large contingency of fans and the band headed to the Excel Energy center.  School was dismissed early Thursday and called off on Friday to allow Panther Fans to support their team.

The Panthers will graduate only one Senior this year, Kaisa Coborn who has been the rock for the team.  8 Juniors will be returning and 2 sophomores along with a ice underclassman class.

The Panthers during regular season only lost one game again Pine-River Backus. They finish the season 24-8.

The team is coached by Stephanie Hanson who has a record of 265-72.  Other coaches included:  Molly Aukes, Molly Gareis and Tod Becker.

Congratulations Panther on an amazing season, you were fun to follow!
