A brother and sister from Ogema, have been sentenced for multiple felony charges, while several other felony charges have been dismissed.  The siblings were arrested for kidnapping and assaulting a man and forcing him to sign over the lease to his vehicle.

Matthew Silas Dodd, age 26, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison on a felony second degree assault with a dangerous weapon.  The other charges which were dropped included felony theft of a motor vehicle, felony first degree aggravated robbery and felony kidnapping.  He will also be required to register as a predatory offender.

His sister, Holly Ann Dodd, age 28, was found guilty of felony theft, for which she received a sentence of 13 months in prison, stayed for five years.  She was sentenced to 150 days in jail, with 150 days credit for time served.  She was also found guilty of second degree assault with a dangerous weapon, for which she was sentenced to 45 days in prison.  Charges that were dismissed include aggravated robbery in the first degree and kidnapping.

According to court reports, about 5:30 p.m. on July 13, 2015, a Detroit Lakes police officer was called to Burger King, where he met with a man who said that Matthew Dodd had stolen his white 1997 GMC Jimmy.

The man was visibly upset and had blood on his shirt and hands, with electrical tape wrapped around one thumb.

The cut later required six stitches to close.

The man said that the day before, Holly Dodd had contacted him on Facebook, wanting to hang out.  He went to her residence on White Earth Reservation and ended up staying in her camper overnight.

About 10:45a.m. the next day, they heard a vehicle pull up, driven by Matthew Dodd.  She went out to talk to him and the brother and sister ended up arguing to the oint where the man felt uncomfortable and decided to leave.

But when he left the camper, he saw that Matthew Dodd was holding a machete, and Dodd allegedly forced the man into the back seat of the Jimmy, and the three of them then drove to a residence in White Earth.

Dodd drove the Jimmy into a garage and locked all the doors.  It was over 80 degrees that day and there was no air conditioning.  Holly went inside the house.

Dodd allegedly told the man he had made a mistake by coming to the reservation, because he is white and people disappear there all the time.

In the garage, Dodd allegedly put the man's hand in a vice grip attached to a table, then sliced his thumb with a meat cleaver.

He told the man he had to sign over the title of his Jimmy, which the man did.

Holly later came back into the garage, and Dodd told them all to get in the car.  In Detroit Lakes, the man jumped out of the Jimmy at a stop sign near Burger King, and reported the incident to police.

A search of the garage allegedly turned up a machete and a meat cleaver, a bloody rag in a garbage can and paper towel wrapped tightly in electrical tape.

Matthew Dodd's DNA was allegedly found on the handle of the meat cleaver and the machete, and the victim's DNA was found on the blade of the meat cleaver.

Emails sent by Holly Dodd to a third party allegedly incriminated her in the case.
