Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reports that on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 4:37 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff's Office received a report of a medical emergency at a fish house on Walker Bay of Leech Lake.
EMS and Deputies arrived and located four adult males in a camper trailer that had been converted to a fish house, experiencing symptoms of what is believed to be carbon monoxide poisoning.
One adult male was located deceased. The deceased victim has been identified as Jared Neis Johnson, age 34, of Akeley, MN.
One adult male was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids and subsequently transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Two adult males were treated on scene and released.
The initial investigation indicated propane devices being used to head the structure were not ventilated and led to unsafe levels of carbon monoxide inside the structure.
An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office. Identification of victims is pending notification of family members.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by the Walker Police Department, Walker Fire Department and North Ambulance.
