Savor the Moment winners announced

The 2nd annual Savor the Moment, a chef’s challenge for early education has announced their winners. The event was held on Saturday, April 14 at the Landmark Inn in Staples as part of an effort to raise money for current programming and new endowment fund, the Staples-Motley Early Childhood Coalition. “We are so grateful to all the participating businesses and admire their commitment to early childhood education,” said Beth Fabian, Staples-Motley Early Childhood Coalition president. “This was a really fun evening filled with delicious food and amazing demonstrations. The participating chefs gave so much of their time and talent.” Event attendees were treated to gourmet samples from five area restaurants and caterers along with wine tasting. Judges for this event included Jennifer Blight of Morey’s Seafood Markets, Katie Heroon and Al Jabs of Farm of Plenty. Harvest Thyme Bistro and Staples Bakery took top honors, in which the judges awarded Best Appetizer/Entrée to Harvest Thyme Bistro for their “Prosciutto Wrapped Mozzarella with Sweet Chipotle Pepper, Coulis and Fresh Basil. Staples Bakery was awarded Best Dessert for their “Apple Bread Pudding with Vanilla Bean Caramel Sauce.” The People’s Choice awards were awarded to the Shante in Pillager for Best Appetizer/Entrée for their “Chicken Grape Pasta Salad.” Staples Bakery was also awarded the People’s Choice Best Dessert. All proceeds from Savor the Moment will be used by the SMECC to support early childhood programs in the Staples Motley area. A portion of proceeds will be reserved for its endowment fund.
