Carrol Henderson, supervisor of the Non-game Wildlife Program at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, will receive a national award from the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies in Washington. Henderson will receive the Gary T. Myers Bird Conservation Award at the North American Bird Conservation Initiative Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday, March 15. The lifetime achievement award is presented to an individual for demonstrating accomplishments and successes in the area of conservation. Henderson has more than 38 years of experience and collaboration with other state and national organizations, helping with bird species such as swans, bald eagles, falcons and loons in Minnesota and internationally. “Perhaps the most important take-home message for this award is that it’s not just an award for me,” Henderson said in a note to DNR’s Non-game Wildlife staff. “It represents 35 years of combined efforts, teamwork, dedication and conservation partnerships among us that have always been characteristic of our Non-game Wildlife Program. We are a very special team, and I think the award symbolizes our team-based accomplishments for bird conservation.” “Thanks to all who play a role in making our DNR Non-game Wildlife Program the best in the country,” Henderson added.
