Man seriously injured from boating accident

The Otter Tail Sheriff’s Office received a report of a boating accident on the north side of West McDonald Lake on July 4 at about 3:50 p.m. The victim, an 18-year-old male, was seriously injured when the prop of the boat ran over him. He was rescued by the same boat’s occupants and brought to shore where EMS was called. The victim was taken to Perham Memorial Hospital and was later taken by LifeFlight to Sanford in Fargo. The accident is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.


UPDATE: The victim and the boat owner has been identified as Robert Nicholas Schmit, 18, of Fargo, North Dakota. The individual driving the boat was Lucas Michael Buerkley, 19, of Fargo, North Dakota. Boat in accident was a 2000 Crowline.
